// MEATSHELL is the experimental-folk duo of Helen Svoboda (contrabass/voice) and Andrew Saragossi (tenor saxophone). The name encompasses the physicality, intensity and vulnerability of playing with two. With a shared curiosity for the subtle beauty of things, the pair combines traditional song forms and unconventional instrumental techniques, emphasising the power of story-telling through sound. Infused with elements of minimalism, improvisation and contemporary jazz, the music is raw and exposed, yet full-bodied and perpetual, propelled by the momentum of the human heartbeat. //

Currently based in Maastricht, Netherlands, 'Afar' is a manifestation and embodiment of the duo’s personal experiences in leaving behind the comfort and familiarity of their Australian home, exploring themes of fear, uncertainty, risk and limitless possibility.
